Characters

All of the characters in the film, Black Lights, have been interviewed professionally and have signed a media release form.  I decided to interview these subjects because of their involvement & expertise in the area of education.

In alphabetical order:

Shatia Brown: 2010 graduate of Chicago Public Schools.  Sophomore student at Southern Illinois University-Edwardsville.

Quincy Cochran: 2011 graduate of Urban Prep Charter Academy; Incoming freshman at North Park University.

Muriel Dorsey: 2010 graduate of Chicago Public Schools.  Sophomore student at Illinois State University.

J. Ivy:  Grammy award-winning Hip Hop/Spoken-Word Artist.  Performed on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.

Phillip Jackson: Founder & Director of Black Star Project

Karen Lewis: Former CPS Teacher; Current President of Chicago Teachers Union

Dr. Marvin Lynn: Assoc Dean, Teacher Education, University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire

Yaw Nyarko: 2010 graduate of Chicago Public Schools.  Sophomore student at Northern Illinois University.

Rev. Dr. Michael L. Pfleger: Pastor, St. Sabina Church

Nya Sanders: 7th grade student in Chicago Public Schools.

Mike Simmons: 2004 graduate of Chicago Public Schools.  Business Entrepreneur & Asst. Director of Teen Reach Youth Services.

Dr. David Stovall: Assoc. Professor in Educational Policy Studies, University of Illinois-Chicago
